Toothache usually caused by decay which has infected the pulp and nerves of the tooth. When a decay is left untreated for long term, the tooth will start giving pain and sometimes it may cause gum swelling due to pus accumulation. 😱

In most cases, when the decay is too deep and causing pain, root canal treatment will be suggested. A root canal treatment is done to repair and save the tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. 😃

Generally, root canal treatment requires 3 steps. The 3 steps need to be done in interval of 5 to 7 days between every steps. 😁

The 3 steps includes:

Step 1: Pulp excirpation

🦷This step is to clean the decay on top of the tooth and making a hole to remove pulp and nerves from the tooth. After removing the pulp, medication will be placed and the hole will be closed with a temporary filling. Usually, after first step the pain will reduce.

Step 2: Cleaning and shaping

🦷During step 2, the canals will be cleaned and the length of root will be taken using a device called Apex locator. Different sizes of handfiles will be used to make sure the canals are fully cleaned and shaped. Another medication will be placed and the hole will be covered with temporary filling again.

Step 3: Obturation

🦷The final step of root canal treatment is to clean the canals in further before obturating it with a material called Gutta-percha and sealer. After obturation, a permanent filling will be done on top of the tooth.

A dental crown is recommended after root canal treatment. This is to avoid the tooth break as the tooth will be on fragile stage after the treatment. 😊

Root canal treatment is basically is a treatment to save your tooth from being extracted. 🤩
